PNRA, in conjunction with USRowing and a grant from the United States Olympic Committee, founded the Rowing Is Growing (R.I.G.) program in 2008 to bring the sport of rowing to a new demographic. With the support of the Trenton Central High School, the Greater Trenton YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Trenton Area, Trenton After School Program the program R.I.G. has reached over 300 minority kids in the Trenton metropolitan area.
PNRA has now partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Mercer County to provide mentorship to the students of Trenton's Joyce Kilmer School and to provide rowing opportunities to the students of Kilmer.
The program is providing new opportunities are being to a demographic that is largely missing from the rowing community nationally, and would not have had such opportunities without the RIG program.
Please watch a video of the USRowing National Team Rowers Mary Whipple, Megan Kalmoe and Natalie Dell's visit to the Kilmer School.
Our goal is to get student-athletes actively involved in the Mercer Junior Rowing program. Youth interested in getting involved should contact Sean McCourt. If you want to get involved in this important outreach work, either as a volunteer or contribute financially, please see the Support PNRA section of this website.
