Committees

Masters

Members of the Mercer Masters are responsible for helping with long-term planning, fundraising, recruitment, clothing orders, and logistical support and travel. There are various committees that facilitate the management of these functions and every club member with Full Membership is expected to participate on a committee.

Committee members work under the direction of the respective chairpersons. Please refer to the Mercer Masters Rowing Program Member Handbook for more information on the various committees as well as how to contact the respective chairs.

Clothing & Club Merchandise

During the season athletes will be permitted to order team merchandise (jackets, practice shirts, etc.). Athletes will bring home information on ordering gear and these items are not mandatory. Team gear will be ordered through Clothing   Club Merchandise Chairperson.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for the research, planning, and organizing of events such as fundraising dinners, car washes, Erg-a-Thons, as well as a Masters Regatta held on Mercer Lake. Committee members are encouraged to use PNRA/Mercer fundraising resources and staff to plan fundraising events.

Long Term Planning

Masters rowing is expanding and has changed rapidly in recent years. The Mercer Masters have already been affected by these changes and it will be necessary for the club to adapt to continued changes in the future. As a result, the goal of the Long Term Planning Committee to identify these trends in masters rowing and implement a long-term plan for Mercer. It is a major undertaking, but one well worth the effort. Members who are interested in making a lasting contribution to the club and influencing its future direction should contact the Long Term Planning Committee Chair.

Membership & Recruiting

The goal of the Membership   Recruiting Committee is to generate marketing strategies aimed at expanding the Mercer Masters membership and put these strategies into place (hang posters, distribute fliers, attend fairs, etc.).

Regatta Organization

Throughout the year, PNRA hosts several rowing events. Events range from mid-sized high school races to large collegiate or international regattas. These events are directly responsible for improving Mercer club equipment and training facilities. PNRA staff will oversee this committee with the help of several captains from both MJRC and the Mercer Masters. The captains are responsible for the following teams: parking, launches, dock-master, volunteer co-ordination, merchandise sales, results   timing. To find out more about how to become a part of the regatta team, please e-mail Sean McCourt at seanmccourt@rowpnra.org.

Social/Hospitality

Mercer Masters strives to promote fellowship amongst club members. The social committee is responsible for organizing events that bring members and their families together outside of the boathouse setting, including a team banquet. There are several areas where members have taken a leadership role. This committee is responsible for setting up the food tent at regattas, both home and away.

Travel & Logistics

It takes a fair amount of organization and planning in order to ensure that all the competitors, their legions of fans, the food, and the equipment arrive at a regatta site on time. As some regattas involve overnight stays, the Travel Committee is also responsible for researching hotel availability and prices.
